Jasper County Primary School (JCPS) second grade students visited Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta Georgia. Students enjoyed the Dinosaur Plaza, Wildwoods Forest Walk, Fantastic Forces, Nature Quest and Armored Animals. This educational trip engages students in both Science and Social Studies Georgia Standards of Excellence. A favorite exhibit included a robotic T-Rex, giant insect sculptures, and a 30-foot skeletal replica of the giant
crocodilian. The robotic T-Rex is featured in the JCPS Little Canes Morning News broadcast. Ms. Dunagan’s second-grade film crew filmed on location from Fernbank Museum. Students pictured are from Ms. Hays’ and Ms. Pitts’ classroom in the Walk-Through Time in Georgia exhibit. Kylee Moon and Isabela Perez from Ms. Hays class are pictured on the lift. Second grade students learn about push and pull forces and at this hands-on exhibit students tested their ability to pull. Lily Caldwell and River Forrest are pictured at the lightning ball thinking about the power of plasma. States of matter is an educational standard for 2 nd grade students in the State of Georgia. Fernbank Museum offers an amazing day of fun and learning and JCPS is thankful for the funding from the Fernbank Museum Access Grant which helped to offset the admission cost for all students. Mrs. Elizabeth Proctor, the JCPS Wonder Room STEM teacher, coordinated this amazing educational experience for our 2nd graders!

Jasper County Primary School partnered with Ameris Bank to have a canned food drive for the holiday season! JCPS ran the food drive for two weeks! Almost 1529 cans were collected at JCPS! All those cans are going to the Jasper County Food Bank for the holiday season. Mrs. Edge is the principal at Jasper County Primary. She is grateful for the generosity of our students and families to support our community. Mrs. Edge would like to thank Ameris Bank for encouraging this collection and working with our students to teach them the importance of giving and helping others. Ameris did supply an ice cream party for the top classes in each grade level. Kim McMichael, Mattie Stodghill and Mrs. Leah Campbell were present to share in the celebration of the canned collection success. Mrs. McMichael is retired from Ameris Bank, but she is very active supporting the Jasper County Food Bank.

We had two 1st grade classes that gave over 400 canes to the food bank. Mrs. Amy Paul and Kaitlyn Tabares are first grade classes who exceeded efforts to collect cans!

We had one kindergarten class that was the top collecting class.  Mrs. Betony Bennett and Mrs. Braley Mitchell’s kindergarten class were our top finisher!

In 2nd grade, Mrs. Rachael Pitts’ class collected the most cans.

STEM Projects

Students at Jasper County Primary School (JCPS) are participating in the annual Great Southeast Pollinator Census created by the University of Georgia. This is the second year JCPS students are participating in this citizen science project. Students are recording the number of bees, butterflies, moths, wasps, flies, and other insects pollinating flowers during a 15-minute period and then uploading the data into the pollinator census portal. Pollinators play critical roles in the production of food and the information gathered is part of larger studies monitoring the status of pollinator populations throughout the Southeast. Marigolds are the main flowers being observed at JCPS. The marigolds were planted in the Spring by JCPS students. Prior to collecting data in the garden students modeled the pollination process with model bees and flowers in the Wonder Room. This project is part of the STEM program taught at JCPS. Plans for a nighttime pollinator garden are being created to expand the current pollinator gardens at JCPS. JCPS STEM teacher- Mrs. Elizabeth Proctor is spearheading this exciting project and could not be happier with the data analysis, exploration, and scientific reasoning that is occurring daily at JCPS!

JCPS would like to make a huge shout-out to The Wellness Cottage for donating to two of our employees at JCPS.

Jasper County Primary School would like to thank Petals and the owner Crystal Epps for supporting our teachers! Mrs. Epps donated two beautiful Thanksgiving arrangements for two of our employees. Each month, staff members write words of gratitude for each other to show their appreciation for all the wonderful actions that make JCPS such a wonderful place. At the end of the month, each compliment is placed into a drawing for the winner to receive a prize from the business that is supporting us that month. One compliment is drawn at random. The staff member who wrote the gratification and the staff member who it was written for become the winners. Congratulations to Mrs. Maxine Standifer and Mrs. Andrea Crowe for being this month's wonderful winners! They are the proud recipients of Petal’s generous donation. Thank you Mrs. Epps for supporting our school and our teachers. Your generosity and support mean so much to all employees at JCPS!
